More About Me

Sip, Save, &Thrive
Hey, I’m Gary. My money journey’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but it’s taught me one thing: you don’t need to turn into a financial hermit to be smart with your money. Life’s too short to sacrifice your daily cup of coffee just to save a few bucks. Instead, let’s focus on making small, practical changes to your finances that add up over time—kind of like brewing the perfect cup of coffee. Start simple, make it personal, and don’t stress over every penny.
I’ve been there: packing lunch every day and cutting back on coffee only to feel burned out and financially stuck. Now? I focus on plugging money leaks and making smarter, long-term moves. The goal isn’t to squeeze every last drop from your budget; it’s to manage your money so you can still enjoy life and get ahead financially.

Where My Story Began
Hey there, I’m Gary, and this is my money blog – a spot where I spill the beans on all the money wisdom I’ve gathered along the way. My life’s been a rollercoaster since I graduated from UCSB back in ’08. There’ve been high-fives and faceplants, believe me.
Through my college days, I battled my way through lectures and life, stumbled over managing my finances big time, and somehow forgot to show myself some love while adulting. So, this blog? It’s my way of dishing out the stuff I’ve learned about adulting, money, and all that jazz.
If you’re eyeballing college, a current student, or fresh out of those campus gates, give my content a spin. And hey, don’t be shy – toss in suggestions or pointers as you go. We’re all in this whirlwind together, after all.
Back in my twenties, I was no Rockefeller. I mean, I was the dude who packed lunch every day and waved goodbye to coffee shop brews. Turns out, counting pennies and saying no to caffeine didn’t exactly turn me into a money wizard. So, I rolled up my sleeves and dove into books and videos to school myself on the whole money game.
Sure, some folks swear by cutting expenses, but honestly, my coffee-making skills? They were a disaster. Too much water, or too much coffee – you name it. After a bunch of epic fails and caffeine-free disasters, I surrendered and started forking out for a daily dose of java. Not the most penny-pinching move, I admit, but it kept me sane.
Instead of going all tightwad and hating life over saving every dime, I switched my focus to plugging money leaks elsewhere. And guess what? All those lightbulb moments, the lessons, the hacks – they’re all right here, ready for you. From whittling down credit card debt to kickstarting my investment journey, it’s all on the menu.
My mission? Get you and your money on friendly terms. I’ll toss in links and resources I stumbled upon too. Feel free to fact-check me and slide over new tips or updates. So, buckle up, dive into my posts, and let’s journey through the financial maze together. Oh, and don’t forget to caffeinate and brace yourself for the day ahead, just like I did – no more morning dread. And remember, no matter what’s on tomorrow’s agenda, that latte might just be worth it!

My Philosophy
At Buy That Latte, I believe financial freedom isn’t about deprivation—it’s about intention. Personal finance shouldn’t feel like a punishment, and you don’t have to sacrifice every small joy to build wealth. I reject the guilt-ridden, all-or-nothing mindset and instead focus on a balanced approach to money: one that allows you to invest, save, and grow while still enjoying life’s little luxuries (like that daily latte). Because real financial success isn’t just about numbers—it’s about designing a life you love.

My Focus
My mission is to help you take control of your finances without giving up what makes you happy. Through practical strategies, smart money habits, and real-life conversations, I make financial independence feel accessible and enjoyable. Whether you’re saving for a home, growing your wealth, or just trying to budget without burnout, I’m here to show you that financial well-being and everyday joy can go hand in hand.

My Approach to Finances
- Be Real About Your Budget – No need to go overboard. You don’t need to give up everything you love, like that morning latte. Instead, focus on what really matters in your budget. Be realistic with what you can and can’t cut. It’s the difference between going cold turkey and brewing a balanced cup.
- Cut the Small Leaks First – Do you really need that extra streaming service or a third subscription box? Find the little things you’re paying for but not using, and stop the leaks before they drain your finances.
- Start Investing, Even If It’s Just a Sip – Just like starting with a small cup of coffee, start small with investing. You don’t need to be a financial guru to begin. A small, regular investment can grow over time. The key is starting — just like you did when you first discovered your love for coffee!
- Give Yourself Grace – You’re human, not a robot. Money mistakes will happen, just like brewing a bad cup of coffee (it happens to the best of us!). The goal isn’t perfection but progress, and remembering that every day is a new opportunity to try again.
